GD continues support for post-shakedown of USS Independence
General Dynamics has won another order to support the post-shakedown of the USS Independence.
General Dynamics Bath Iron Works has won another order, worth $9 million, to support the post-shakedown availability for the USS Independence.
The company just won a similar order near the end of July.
A post-shakedown is conducted after a new vessel has completed its shakedown cruise. The post-shakedown work focuses on correcting defects found during the cruise.
This current order will provide labor and material support services for the USS Independence.
Efforts will include program management, production supervision, temporary protection services and transportation services, the Defense Department said.
Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., and is expected to be completed by December 2013.
Funding in the amount of $6.9 million is obligated at the time of the award, $2.3 million of which will expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
