Federal data centers double
Despite the efforts to drive lower costs and more efficient computing, the number of federal data centers has doubled over the past few months.
The number of federal government data centers has doubled in just a few months, going from 3,000 a few months ago to currently having around 6,000, according to Nextgov.
The rapid increase in the number of data centers is likely due to a 2011 policy shift that expanded the government’s definition of a data center, allowing for more facilities to be considered data centers.
All the while, the government has been trying to reduce its data center portfolio to make computing cheaper and more efficient, Nextgov reported.
