Cybersecurity: A history lesson from the 1980s
It's important to remember that, despite all of the recent news on cybersecurity, the United States government has been defending our country's online resources since the early 1980s, GCN reports.
GCN has released a timeline of the past 30 years in U.S. cybersecurity.
The list begins with staging a proto-cyberattack in 1982 by reprogramming computer equipment that was to be used by a Soviet gas pipeline to the launch of an initiative in 2012 for a digital identity ecosystem.
With so much recent news on cyberattacks, it’s easy to forget that the government has been defending the nation’s online resources since the internet’s early days, GCN said.
