GE sees big data as big opportunity

General Electric sees big data as a massive business opportunity, according to All Things D. Many wouldn't think GE would chase big data after having largely ignored the internet for so long, but that's not the case.

CEO Jeff Immelt explained how jet engines have around 20 sensors that capture real-time continuous data, and if he can take such data and model an outcome, it’s worth a lot of money to his customers.

Big data  analytics could track changes and provide guaranteed outcomes, All Things D quoted Immelt as saying, all the while saving a percentage of the cost.
