Big data makes for a better game, and a better Army
Georgia Tech researchers have found that, by using big data, video games can adapt the level of challenge to a user's performance, which is tracked over time. Turns out, this kind of big data is also useful with training simulations in the Army.
Georgia Tech researchers are using big data to predict video game players’ in-game performance and then provide a challenge that scales with their performance level, and this kind of big data utilization has other applications beyond the world of video games, according to Science Daily.
The bid data being used for the video game is similar to what Netflix uses to suggest movies to its users, having tracked their usage pattern over a certain span of time. Mark Riedl is the co-creator of the model, and is also an assistant professor in the School of Interactive computing.
Riedl says that the same kind of big data and simulation has been used in the Army to simulate virtual missions that won’t overwhelm novices, better helping them progress into experts, Science Daily reported.
