BAE Systems wins $8.3M contract for mine disposal system
BAE Systems has won a contract with the U.S. Navy to provide its Archerfish neutralizer mine disposal systems.
BAE Systems has won a $8.3 million contract modification to provide the Navy with program management, calibration, maintenance and engineering services support as part of an effort to upgrade a mine disposal system.
The company's maritime services division in BAE's electronics business will take on the work, which is part of the Archerfish system.
This modification completes the production and delivery of Archerfish neutralizers, which is a mine disposal system that is developed by BAE Systems.
The Archerfish can be launched by surface ships, helicopters or unmanned underwater vehicles. It has a fibre optic data link that is used to command the system. it also uses high frequency sonar and low light video data, according to BAE's website.
The system can identify the mine threats and then emit a shaped charge warhead to detonate the target.
Work will be performed in Portsmouth, U.K., and is expected to be completed by September 2014.
