Wyle wins $49M contract for medical research

Wyle Inc. has won a $49 million medical research contract with the U.S. Air Force School of Aerospace Medicine to help improve human performance and medical care in a number of areas.

Areas include enroute care, force health protection, expeditionary medicine, operational medicine and human performance.

Research will be conducted as part of the Quick Reaction Assessments, Studies, Analysis, Evaluation and Research program, better known as the QUASAR program.

Outcomes of this research and of the program, Wyle said, will enhance the continuum of care during transport of patients from point of injury to point of definitive care; injury prevention and early detection of emerging threats; expeditionary medical care during contingency operations; patient care and treatment in garrison; and operational human performance across the spectrum of Air Force warfighter operations.

The Air Force Medical Services operation will disseminate any benefits of Wyle’s work throughout the Air Force, the company said.
 
“This is an important strategic win for Wyle,” said Bill Ercoline, QUASAR program manager for Wyle. “This is a natural extension of the highly specialized medical support work that Wyle has conducted during the past four decades for combat aircraft pilots and astronauts alike.”

In the QUASAR program, services will be provided for the 711th Human Performance Wing of the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory, and will be provided over a six-year period by a Wyle-led team of aeromedical research institutions and experts.

Work is to be performed at Wyle team facilities and at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Dayton, Ohio, among other potential installations affiliated with the Defense Department.
