Harris continues FAA hot streak

Harris Corp. has won a $63 million task order contract with the Federal Aviation Administration, the third with the agency in the last month.

The company won a $291 million NextGen contract at the end of August, and a $331 million DCIS contract just a few weeks ago.

The latest award was made under the five-year FAA Telecommunications Infrastructure contract. Under the contract, Harris will provide enterprise messaging services, enabling the FAA to share mission-critical information across its operations, the company said.

Specifically, Harris will be working on the National Air Space Enterprise Messaging Service, which the company said will serve as a network-centric distribution technology for a variety of data, including flight planning, traffic flow management, surface radar and weather information.

The service "increases common situational awareness and improves agility within the NAS," said John O'Sullivan, vice president, Mission Critical Networks, Harris Government Communications Systems. "It empowers the FAA to use the infrastructure as a service, providing the flexibility to order only those services most important to the user community."

The enterprise messaging service provides the Systems Wide Information Management program with services that use both Harris’ telecommunications infrastructure contract, and its Data Exchange platform.
