General Dynamics sells 13,000 more rifleman radios to Army
Government has now ordered 19,000 radios in total.
The U.S. Army is buying 13,000 additional radios from General Dynamics C4 Systems, an order valued at $53.9 million.
The company said that this brings the government’s total number of radios ordered to more than 19,000.
The radios are handheld Joint Tactical Radio System radios, used by riflemen and other soldiers. Each radio lets a soldier on the battlefield to have voice and data communication; in addition, these radios support all three transformational government waveforms: the Soldier Radio Waveform, Wideband Networking Waveform and Mobile User Objective System satellite-communications waveform.
The radios are to be distributed to infantry brigade combat teams beginning in October 2012.
