Air Force plans 3 ERP contracts

The Air Force is developing several requests for proposals that might be released this year as part of an effort to consolidate a variety of enterprise resource planning systems.

In an interview with Washington Technology sister publication, Defense Systems, Maj. Gen. Craig Olson, program executive officer for Air Force Business and Enterprise Systems, gave an update on the service’s ERP initiatives.

“Historically, Air Force efforts to develop and field major combat support information systems have been characterized by significant investments with limited capability being delivered. This realization has brought us to the point of restructuring our enterprise resource planning programs to improve effectiveness and efficiency,” Olson said. He also is the director of the Enterprise Information Systems Directorate at Maxwell Air Force Base, Gunter Annex, Ala.

The Air Force is consolidating its ERPs into one organization, rather than the three that have managed it to this point.

“Consolidating the Air Force ERPs into one organization will deliver more positive results, both operationally and fiscally, by allowing the Air Force to take ownership and responsibility for the implementation of these technologies while controlling costs,” he said.

Olson said he expects the Office of the Secretary of Defense to approve one RFP in the financial domain this month. Approval for a logistics RFP is expected in August.

In the personnel domain, a final RFP is expected to be released by the end of the fiscal year.

“I think it is fair to say our team has a demanding agenda, but the opportunities for more effective and efficient delivery of business capabilities are greater than ever,” Olson said.
