L-3 unit snares $39.5M submarine systems win

L-3 Services Inc.'s Unidyne division has won a $39.5 million contract to provide submarine services for the Navy's Command, Norfolk Ship Support Activity, the Department of Defense announced on April 10.

The work will include mechanical and electronic-system engineering, analytical, logistics and technical support services for Navy submarines.

The award is firm-fixed-price, cost-plus-fixed-fee, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract with an expected completion date of April 15, 2013. If all options are exercised, the completion date would be April 15, 2014.

Most of the submarine work - 60 percent - will be conducted in Norfolk, Va. However, some details are being completed in Washington state, Hawaii's Pearl Harbor, San Diego, New Hampshire and Guam.

Unidyne's primary customer is the Navy and the division concentrates on Naval combat-system work such as engineering, logistics and technical services for ships, submarines, and shore facilities.  L-3 Unidyne, based in Norfolk, is part of L-3’s Power and Control Systems Group of companies.

The Fleet Logistics Center of Norfolk, Va., is the contracting activity.
