DRS wins $269M contract for military Internet cafe

DRS Technical Services is a subsidiary of DRS Defense Solutions Inc.

DRS Technical Services Inc. will create an overseas Internet cafe to boost troop morale under a Navy contract that could be worth as much as $269 million if all options are exercised.

The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity, firm-fixed-price contract calls for DRS to provide systems engineering, analysis, design development, acquisition, integration, installation, testing, maintenance, and integrated logistic support for satellite and communication systems that will adequately support the requirements of the Defense Department and other government sponsors for continued morale, welfare and recreation Internet cafe support, according to the DOD’s April 19 announcement.

The Herndon, Va., contractor will perform the work mostly in Iraq and Afghanistan, with the rest to be done in Stuttgart, Germany. It is expected to be completed by April 2015.

The contract was competitively procured via the Federal Business Opportunities website and the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command E-commerce website, with an unlimited number of proposals solicited and four offers received.

The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic of Charleston, S.C., is the contracting activity.
