SAIC's new CEO names new COO
Stu Shea joined SAIC in 2005 after serving as VP in Northrop’s TASC unit.
Science Applications International Corp.’s new CEO, John Jumper, didn’t wait long before announcing his first executive appointment.
Jumper, who joined SAIC on March 1, named Stu Shea chief operating officer effective immediately.
Shea has served as president of SAIC's Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, leading nearly 13,000 scientists and engineers in supporting customers across the full spectrum of national security programs, according to the March 5 news release announcing the appointment.
Prior to joining SAIC in October 2005, Shea served as vice president of space and intelligence in Northrop Grumman’s TASC business unit, which provided mission support to the 16 agencies under the purview of Office of the Director of National Intelligence and the Department of Defense's space superiority programs.
"Stu has dedicated his life to serving our nation by aligning his passion for leadership, mentoring, community service, and business performance all to build capabilities to serve our warfighters," Jumper said in the announcement. "In doing so, Stu has distinguished himself through a successful combination of business and professional accomplishments that have served SAIC and the nation well," he added.
Shea currently serves as chairman of the board for two SAIC subsidiaries: CloudShield Technologies Inc. and Science, Engineering and Technology Associates Corp.
He is a 2009 recipient of Federal Computer Week’s Fed100 award for the top executives in the IT industry.
Shea received a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Albany and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Kansas.
SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
