Alion contracted to make Navy vessels shipshape
Under a $73.2 million contract, the Navy’s 185 surface ships will receive engineering, logistics and other services.
Alion Science and Technology Corp. will perform professional support services for the Navy under a one-year, $73.2 million contract.
The award calls for Alion to provide engineering and technical support across the Navy and for the Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters, according to a Feb. 1 announcement from the employee-owned company.
The support includes program management, engineering, logistics, training, lifecycle management and financial management for the Navy’s 185 surface ships.
Alion also will oversee logistics support for naval ship overhauls in shipyards around the world.
“Through better planning of shipyard availability periods, Alion is enabling the Navy to more efficiently maintain ships and further extend the fleet’s lifecycle,” said Rod Riddick, Alion senior vice president and manager of the Acquisition Program Management Group, in the announcement.
The period of performance runs through December 2012.
Alion Science and Technology Corp., of McLean, Va., ranks No. 51 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
