Acquisition opens LMI's southeast region

Government logistics provider LMI will establish a southeast region and headquarters with the purchase of Belzon Inc., a government consultancy in Huntsville, Ala.

Financial terms of the purchase were not disclosed in the Feb. 21 announcement.

In establishing the regional office, LMI seeks to expand on work already being performed in Huntsville, along with projects in Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana and the Carolinas, the announcement explained.

Belzon is known for innovation and project management in lifecycle logistics planning, readiness management, business case analyses, program management support, information technology, and engineering services.

The new southeast regional facility will combine Belzon’s expertise with the McLean, Va., company’s logistics expertise, which is now applied to supporting the public sector in the areas of defense, intelligence, health care, homeland security, energy and environment, and civil government.

As part of this support for the military and federal government, LMI has provided logistics and management support to the Army, Marine Corps and Air Force, along with NASA, the FBI and the Energy and Homeland Security departments.

Belzon’s current president, Mike Carden, will become LMI’s new southeast region director. and company founder and CEO Ron Klein will advise LMI on its regional activities.

We also sought an organization who was a good match for LMI’s corporate values,” LMI President and CEO Nelson Ford said. “In Belzon we found a great fit: talented, innovative staff who value service to the federal government and their local community.”

LMI, founded as the Logistics Management Institute in 1961, is a non-profit with more than 900 employees and reported funding of $208 million in fiscal 2010.
