CGI awarded contract to transition GSA websites to the cloud

 CGI Federal Inc. has been tapped by the General Services Administration to carry out a $20.76 million cloud modernization project for websites such as Data.gov and USA.gov.

The five-year contract, led by the Office of Citizen Services and Innovation Technologies, was won by the CGI Group subsidiary under GSA’s Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) BPA, according to a Jan. 24 company statement.

USA.gov, the government’s flagship web portal which receives more than 2 million unique visitors monthly, will transition to the cloud under the award as well as GSA’s other public websites.

Under the project, CGI will provide public-cloud infrastructure management and other services necessary to transition, operate, maintain, enhance, and secure the environment, the announcement said.

“Moving the GSA’s public websites to the cloud is one of the key elements in the agency’s plan to reduce costs, improve efficiency, and enhance operations,” said Eric Wolking, CGI’s senior vice president.

CGI Group Inc., of Montreal, Que., ranks No. 41 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
