Florida awards HP $172M medicaid extension

Hewlett-Packard Co. has won a $172 million, three-year contract renewal from the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration to streamline compliance and move toward managed care in a state with one of the largest and most complex Medicaid programs, according to a news release.

The agreement lets HP Enterprise Services manage Florida's interChange Medicaid Management Information System through June 2016.

“HP built and manages a system for Florida based on the most advanced and proven technology to streamline Medicaid procedures while providing the state with vital information about health care trends and the medical needs of Florida’s Medicaid beneficiaries,” said Susan Arthur, vice president, U.S. Healthcare Industry, HP Enterprise Services. 

Web-based provider enrollment, claims authorization and file exchange have all been installed since HP began the project in 2008. In addition, HP is helping the state through the mandatory managed care transition, regulatory changes, as well as offering support for Medicaid reforms, the National Correct Coding Initiative and the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Program.

Going forward HP plans to bring new technology to improve the current MMIS system. Currently, the system offers claims processing, call center services and claims suspense -- all in real-time - and provides pharmaceutical support, the company said in a statement.

 HP also serves as the fiscal agent or principal IT provider for Medicaid in 22 states.
