CSC chooses leader for new defense group

Alan Weakley has been named president of Computer Sciences Corp.’s North American Public Sector’s newly created Defense Group.

In this role, he will lead the strategic direction, planning and execution of the group’s worldwide presence and growth, reporting to Public Sector President James Sheaffer, the company announced on Oct. 4.

The Defense Group is now CSC’s primary organization for enterprise solutions, information technology services, mission support and training and range operations for the Defense Department, the announcement said.

The group and its more than 14,000 employees was created from CSC’s former Defense/Intel unit and the Applied Technologies Group, which were led respectively by Austin Yerks, who recently retired, and Weakley.

“The fully integrated Defense Group will bring a significant set of synergies, efficiencies and core offerings that will improve service delivery to our military customers,” said Sheaffer in the announcement.

Before joining CSC, Weakley was employed by the URS Corp. for more than 23 years including time as vice president and general manager of the Engineering and Technology Services Group.

Weakley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Strayer College and a Master of Engineering Management degree from The George Washington University.

CSC, of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
