CSC buys HHS health care data management firm

Computer Sciences Corp. has acquired Maricom Systems Inc. Financial terms of the deal were not reported.

The Baltimore company provides business intelligence and data management solutions that support mission-critical health IT systems within the Health and Human Services Department.

This acquisition allows CSC to expand its support of HHS efforts to implement IT improvements in the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the CSC announcement states.

Maricom enhances CSC's capabilities in the areas of health care informatics and data management, the cornerstones of the government health transformation initiatives, it added.

Maricom’s approximately 200 employees will be integrated into CSC’s Health Services business area, which provides IT services and solutions, systems integration and operations support to HHS’ Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

“The addition of Maricom Systems supports CSC’s strategic focus on selected high growth areas of the U.S. federal government,” James Sheaffer, president of CSC’s North American Public Sector line of business, according to the announcement.

Investment bank KippsDeSanto acted as the sole financial adviser to Maricom Systems for this acquisition.

CSC, of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 11 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
