HP captures $700M San Diego outsourcing deal

HP will focus on data centers, mobility and citizen services as it takes over San Diego County's IT operations.
Hewlett-Packard has become the new outsourcing provider of IT services to San Diego County under a $700 million contract.
The county has been one of the pioneers of IT outsourcing in the state and local market ever since it turned over its information systems infrastructure to Computer Sciences Corp. in 1999. Northrop Grumman took over in 2007 when it won the contract's recompete.
Now, it’s HP Enterprise Services’ turn.
HP has teamed with AT&T to provide IT and telecommunications services, including data center hosting, desktop support, networks, applications and cross-functional services. One of the county's goals for the latest iteration of outsourcing is to improve citizen-centric services, the company said.
Another goal is increasing mobility capabilities so workers can collaborate and share data wherever they are working. It is part of the county’s e-government and green IT initiatives, HP said.
Government Technology reported that HP is taking over sooner than expected because Northrop Grumman transferred ownership of its contract to HP ahead of the 2013 deadline.
