GTEC takes new name, branding from Greek mythology

Global Defense Technology & Systems Inc. has a new corporate name and brand, Sotera Defense Solutions Inc.

GTEC’s name and brand change follows the completion of its acquisition by an affiliate of Ares Management LLC for approximately $315 million, including the assumption of debt and transaction expenses, according to a company statement.

The company, a provider of mission-critical, technology-based systems, solutions and services for national security agencies and government programs, said Sotera is a term from Greek mythology and represents the spirit of safety, preservation and deliverance from harm.

“With the backing of our new sponsor, Ares Management, we are in a great position to execute our long-term growth strategy to become the trusted midsized, mission-focused prime contractor for the national security community,” said Sotera President and CEO John Hillen in the statement.
