Accuvant creates federal unit to increase cyber sales

Despite the uncertainties of federal IT spending for the next several years, the government sector remains a magnet for large and small technology companies.

Accuvant Inc., a Denver-based information security provider, has just launched Accuvant Federal Solutions, its cybersecurity business unit specifically for government clients.

Accuvant currently protects more than 2.3 million government endpoints from malicious threats, according to a company announcement today.
Accuvant Federal Solutions will provide government agencies with deep security research and malware analysis, risk-based regulatory compliance services, secure software and systems development and engineering, as well as custom technology integration.

The services will help agencies reduce costs, increase compliance with the growing list of federal requirements, and improve their overall security posture against the increasing matrix of International cyber threats, the statement said.

“Government has a clear mandate to cut costs while protecting mission critical information assets,” said Dan Burns, Accuvant co-founder and vice president of sales, in the statement.

“The launch of our new Federal Solutions business unit enables the federal government to tackle cybersecurity threats by taking advantage of Accuvant’s more than 350 cyber employees and 500 technical certifications to help government agencies meet their security objectives,” added Accuvant Vice President James Foster, former chief executive officer of Ciphent  Inc.

In September 2010, Accuvant acquired Ciphent, of Hanover, Md., boosting the company’s presence near Washington, D.C. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
