Harris Corp. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire privately held Carefx Corp., a provider of interoperability workflow solutions based on its Fusionfx platform.
Harris will pay $155 million for the health care company based in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The acquisition will expand Harris’ capabilities in government health care, provide an entry into the commercial health care market, and strengthen its overall position as a leading provider of interoperability solutions, according to a Harris announcement released today.
Founded in 2002, Carefx has nearly 250 employees worldwide. Its health care provider customers include the Boston Medical Center, Emory University Hospital, Northwestern Medical Hospital, the Louisiana Rural Health Information Exchange, Johns Hopkins Health System and Cambridge University Hospitals.
The platform is an interoperable, intuitive solution suite that aggregates patient information across existing systems and delivers it in a single, clear, clinically relevant view to physicians at the point of care.
The solution enables physicians to offer a more consistent, higher-quality experience for patients, reducing clinical errors and increasing individual productivity, Harris said.
The Fusionfx platform is used in more than 800 hospitals, health care systems, and health information exchanges across North America, Europe and Asia. The deal was agreed to at the recent Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society Conference in Orlando, Fla.
Harris Corp., of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
