BAE wraps up purchase of L-1 intelligence trio

BAE Systems Inc. has completed its acquisition of L-1 Identity Solutions Inc.’s Intelligence Services Group, which comprises SpecTal LLC, Advanced Concepts Inc. and McClendon LLC. The purchase price was approximately $297 million.

The completed transaction, initially announced in September 2010, will enhance BAE Systems’ ability to effectively meet the growing needs of government intelligence, defense and security customers, according to a BAE announcement released Feb. 15.

The purchase of the group coincided with the acquisition of the remainder of L-1 by Safran, a Paris-based technology group whose core businesses are aerospace, defense and security.

ISG’s operations and its more than 1,000 employees will now become an integral, complementary part of BAE Systems’ growing Intelligence & Security sector.

The ISG acquisition is also consistent with BAE Systems’ strategy for growing its services business in cyber and intelligence.

“This acquisition is all about building our capabilities to better meet the dynamic and changing security and intelligence needs of our U.S. government customers,” said John Gannon, president of the BAE Systems Intelligence & Security sector, in the announcement.

“Our business focuses on four key customer missions – intelligence and counterintelligence, homeland security, law enforcement, and support to military operations,” Gannon said, adding that the ISG employees “represent a tremendous asset.”
