Purchase of Danish company expands BAE’s cyber, intell capabilities

BAE Systems PLC is purchasing the Danish cyber and intelligence company ETI A/S for 1.2 billion Danish kroner (approximately $210.7 million).

ETI provides advanced technology products and services to government and commercial clients worldwide, according to a statement issued today by the British corporation, parent company of BAE Systems Inc.

The acquisition supports BAE’s strategy to grow its security services business in cyber and intelligence, the company said in the statement.

The purchase of ETI follows the acquisition of Detica in 2008 and the recently announced agreements to acquire L-1 Identity Solutions Inc.’s Intelligence Services Group in the United States and stratsec.net in Australia.

ETI employs approximately 260 people and has operations in the United Kingdom, the United States, Asia and the Middle East.

The acquisition, which is conditional among other things upon receiving regulatory approval, is expected to close in the first quarter of 2011.

BAE Systems Inc., of Rockville, Md., ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
