Microsoft Federal leader moves to Amazon

Teresa Carlson, who has led Microsoft Corp.’s federal division, is resigning to direct the cloud computing efforts at Amazon.com.

She is expected to begin her new job Dec. 13.

As vice president of Microsoft Federal, Carlson was in charge of strategy and the execution of sales, contracting, presales technical support, product marketing, customer satisfaction, and performance of the federal business worldwide, according to the company’s online biographical information.

"As she departs Microsoft to pursue other opportunities, we wish Teresa the best," Microsoft said in a statement sent to Washington Technology. "We are grateful for her energy, her passion for the customer and her numerous contributions to Microsoft Federal."
 
Carlson joined Microsoft in 2002 as part of the U.S. Federal Group to start and manage the new Business Productivity unit.

In July 2005, she became the U.S. director of strategy and operations for Microsoft Federal, where she developed new concepts, methods and strategies for working in the federal market.

In 2006, Carlson was promoted to general manager of the Federal Civilian Agencies and International Global Organizations business unit, managing a $600 million-plus business unit.

Before joining Microsoft, she was worldwide vice president of marketing and business development at Lexign Inc., formerly Keyfile Corp., a software company.

Carlson’s background also includes 15 years in the health care field, as a practitioner and consultant initially, then as a business manager and area vice president.
