North American Public Sector bolsters CSC’s flat 2Q earnings

Computer Sciences Corp. reported $4 billion in revenue for the second quarter of fiscal 2011, equaling fiscal 2010's second-quarter revenue of $4 billion.

For the first six months of the fiscal year, CSC’s revenue of $7.9 billion also equaled the revenue of the first half-year of fiscal 2010, according to a company statement released today.

New business awards for the quarter totaled $4.5 billion, down slightly from the $4.6 billion of the previous year.

CSC’s North American Public Sector (NPS) business accounted for approximately $2.9 billion of those awards.

Business Solutions and Services reported $0.8 billion, and the Managed Services Sector also closed $0.8 billion in new business.

“While our NPS business is still experiencing a slowdown in the pace of customer decisions, our continued success in capturing sizable [indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity] awards positions us for meaningful second-half growth,” said CSC Chairman, President and CEO Michael Laphen in the statement.

“Our commercial businesses have achieved new logo wins and are building a robust pipeline, particularly in our targeted areas of applications outsourcing, cyber and cloud solutions,” he added.

“Our underlying performance in the quarter continues to track in a positive direction," Laphen said. "We achieved a solid quarter in new business bookings, which supports our anticipated growth in the second half of the fiscal year.”
