AT&T, Ericsson go dutch on InCompass Wireless
AT&T bought InCompass Wireless to add mobile systems integration capabilities, while Ericsson picked up the strategy and technology portion.
AT&T Inc. has bought InCompass Wireless, the enterprise mobility solutions business of inCode Telecom Group. Ericsson took the first bite in September, buying the San Diego, Calif.-based company’s strategy and technology business. Financial details of the acquisitions were not disclosed.
For AT&T, the addition of mobile systems integrator and technology provider InCompass’s assets, including some employees, expands its enterprise mobility solutions and professional services expertise.
InCompass consultants and developers have collectively deployed and managed thousands of mobile devices for the company's existing customers, AT&T said.
“The InCompass Wireless team brings end-to-end solution design, software system integration and device management skills, which will allow us to meet a broader set of customer needs across the mobile ecosystem,” said Michael Antieri, president of AT&T Business Solutions’ Advanced Enterprise Mobility Solutions group, formed earlier this year.
Ericsson’s acquisition of InCode’s Strategy and Technology group brought aboard about 45 strategy, business and technical telecommunications consultants in the United States and Canada, as well as contracts, technology and intellectual property.
Ericsson has a proactive, consultative approach to working with its customers that closely aligns with InCode’s business model, the company said in a statement. The acquisition bolsters Ericsson's strategic advisory capabilities, while letting InCode staff leverage Ericsson’s presence in mobile broadband, fixed broadband and convergence, consumer and business applications, television and media management, and managed services.
The organization will operate as the Strategy Consulting Group of Ericsson North America under the InCode brand.
AT&T is ranked No. 46 on Washington Technology's 2010 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
