Under the department’s Security Information Management System (SIMS) contract, an Alliant vehicle, Apptis will develop a comprehensive Web-based system to support the personnel security clearance process, according to an Apptis statement today.
The SIMS contract will cover the entire spectrum of clearance processing from initial entry through adjudication, replacing the more manual-oriented clearance and background investigation systems, the statement said.
The new system will provide vital support to more than 800 field investigators in the United States and at 270 diplomatic posts abroad.
SIMS, a high-priority initiative for the department, is the primary software application that will automate the personnel security clearance process from end-to-end for State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security, Security Infrastructure, Office of Personnel Security and Suitability.
