Lockheed wins $356M extension for FAA flight services

Lockheed Martin Corp. has won a three-year, $356 million contract option from the Federal Aviation Administration to continue serving the general aviation community under the Automated Flight Service Stations contract.

The option begins Friday, Oct. 1.

Under the AFSS contract, which was initially awarded in 2005, Lockheed Martin has employed technology enhancements and a hub system that has modernized flight services, the company said in an announcement dated Sept. 28.

Flight planning is now streamlined and enables weather and flight plan status to be shared across the entire AFSS network.

With continued FAA oversight and adherence to its safety and service requirements, Lockheed Martin will maintain deliverance of flight services for the continental U.S., Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

Lockheed Martin, of Bethesda, Md., ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology’s 2010 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
