Lockheed software tools will secure NRC nuclear data

Lockheed Martin Corp. will provide secure software tools to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission under a 10-year, $77.4 million contract.
The award calls for Lockheed to supply software that will manage data on radioactive materials, including transactions involving such materials and their licensing process.

Under the Integrated Source Management Portfolio Program, Lockheed Martin will provide the NRC Office of State and Federal Materials with a secure and effective set of automated tools to house and maintain information on licensees, nationally tracked sources possessed by licensees, and licensee transactions, according to a Lockheed announcement today.

The portfolio consists of three systems: The License Verification System and the Web Based Licensing System are in the planning stages; the one system already in operation is the National Source Tracking System.

The contractor also will be responsible for development, deployment, hosting, user support and maintenance of this portfolio of systems.
Lockheed Martin, which built, maintains and hosts the NRC’s first high-level security system designed to track nuclear sources nationwide, has supported the commission’s mission since 2001 providing software maintenance and operations service for 95 legacy systems and help desk support in a certified facility, the announcement stated.

Lockheed Martin, of Bethesda, Md., ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
