Harris to supply digital mapping for Navy aircraft

Harris Corp. will provide digital mapping systems for Navy aircraft under a contract worth $6.2 million.

Under the contract, Harris will deliver moving map and digital video map computers and associated housings for multiple aircraft platforms, the Defense Department said April 26.

Harris’s Tactical Aircraft Moving Map Capability Digital Map Computer (TAMMAC DMC) provides flight crews with a graphical presentation of the aircraft’s present position and relative positions of targets, threats, terrain features, mission flight path, no fly zones and safe bases, according to the company’s Web site. It is used on the Navy’s FA-18C/D, F-18E/F, and EA 18G.

Harris’ Government Communications Systems Division will perform the work in Melbourne, Fla. The work is scheduled to be completed by April 2013.

The contracting activity is the Naval Air System Command at Patuxent River, Md.

Harris, of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
