SAIC tackles process management at Transportation Command

Science Applications International Corp. will help the U.S Transportation Command boost its business management capabilities under a contract worth up to $18 million.

Under the contract, SAIC will provide process and systems improvement services designed to enhance the agency’s business process management activities, company officials said March 22. Specifically, SAIC will apply best practices and configure the WebMethods business process management tool to standardize, automate, track and improve the Transportation Command's distribution processes.

The work is being done as part of the Transportation Command’s Agile Transportation for the 21^st Century initiative. The AT21 initiative was established to improve the timing and quality of transportation support provided to combatant commanders.

SAIC will do the work in O’Fallon, Ill., and at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.

The contract was awarded through the Defense Information Systems Agency’s Encore II Information Technology Solutions contract.

The Transportation Command provides air, land and sea transportation for the Defense Department.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
