Dell Perot Systems has won a five-year, $42 million award to assist the Army with communications and other command services.

The company’s Government Services Business Unit, of Fairfax, Va., will provide the Rock Island Arsenal with command, control, communications, computer and information management (C4IM) services.

Perot Systems, recently acquired by Dell Corp., has been providing services to the Rock Island Arsenal for the past four years, including consolidating the base’s Directorate of Information Management centers to a single center and simultaneously migrating the base’s networks to the Army’s first Area Processing Center.

The successful migration also helped the base improve service delivery and strengthen security by reducing entry points, according to the company.

Under the new contract, Dell Perot Systems will continue to provide network operations, desktop services, e-mail, information assurance, telephones and connectivity to long-haul communications.

The Rock Island Arsenal is the largest government-owned weapons manufacturing arsenal in the western world. The Illinois facility provides manufacturing, logistics, and base support services for the armed forces.

Perot Systems Inc., of Plano, Texas, ranks No. 40 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
