Miller named CEO of Spacenet government solutions

Susan Miller has joined Spacenet Inc. as chief executive officer of the company’s Spacenet Integrated Government Solutions division.

Founded in 1981, Spacenet, of McLean, Va., is a wholly owned subsidiary of Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd.

She will oversee the strategic direction and marketing efforts of Spacenet’s government services unit with a focus on expanding its reach to new customers including the Defense and Homeland Security departments, the intelligence community and other government-related agencies, according to a company announcement made today.

“This appointment is a significant step for Spacenet as we expand our government business and provide mission critical communication services including fixed and transportable satellite solutions to a wider range of government clients,” Spacenet CEO Andreas Georghiou said.

Spacenet has been expanding its presence in the government market with the launch of targeted product offerings and new government customers at federal, state and local levels. Much of Spacenet’s initial government success has come from its critical first response satellite solutions, company officials said.

Miller has more than 20 years of experience in the telecommunications and satellite sector with a broad background in management, technology and operations. Previous to Spacenet, she served as president and chairman of the board of Intelsat General Corp.

She also has held several executive roles, including senior vice president at SkyTerra LP; vice president of engineering and operations at Lockheed Martin World Systems; and director of advanced applications development at Comsat Corp.

Miller earned a bachelor’s of science degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master’s degree in electrical engineering with a concentration in satellite communications from the University of Southern California.
