SAIC assists FAA upgrade national air system

Science Applications International Corp. will provide program management and technical services to the Federal Aviation Administration under a five-year contract that has a total value of more than $106 million.

The indefinite-delivery requirements prime contract will support the agency’s NextGen transformation program efforts, company officials said.

NextGen is a wide-ranging transformation of the entire national air transportation system that will replace current ground-based technologies with new and more dynamic satellite-based technology.

Those new capabilities and technologies will change the way the system operates, reduce congestion, and improve the passenger experience, according to SAIC.

Under the contract, the company will provide program management and technical services in a broad range of task areas including safety management systems, aeronautical communications activities, and aviation weather programs.

The award has a one-year base and four one-year options. The work will be performed primarily in Washington, D.C., and at FAA locations, as required.

SAIC, of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 7 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
