Former CSC exec leads contractor of the year awards
The annual awards program recognizes companies and executives who achieved significant accomplished in the past year.
Al Nashman, former head of Computer Sciences Corp.’s federal business and a recognized pioneer of the government contracting business, leads a slate of finalists vying for the Greater Washington Contractor Awards.
Nashman, who retired from CSC in 1992 after 27 years, will receive the annual hall of fame award at a gala dinner Nov. 4. Finalists for executive and contractor of the year were announced Wednesday night in seven categories.
Also to be recognized at the dinner will be David Drabkin from the General Services Administration, who will receive the public sector partner of the years.
Former Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) will receive special recognization for his service in the U.S. Senate and other public service he has provided during his career.
The annual awards program is produced by the Fairfax County, Va., Chamber of Commerce, the Professional Services Council and Washington Technology.
“The whole way we do business today – Al Nashman is the daddy rabbit of all that,” said Ted Lagasey, a former executive with SRA International Inc., in a 2006 profile of Nashman.
Legasey credited Nashman with creating the business development process that is commonly used by contractors today.
When Nashman took over CSC government business its revenue was counted in the millions. When he retired, the number had reached $1.2 billion.
The winners in the seven competitive awards categories will be announced Nov. 4.
