DRS to upgrade voice systems on Aegis ships

Under the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, the company will furnish new integrated voice communications systems for Aegis cruisers and destroyers, the Defense Department said Sept. 18. If all options are exercised, the contract might be worth as much as $59.1 million over a five-year period, officials said.
The Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center Atlantic is the contracting activity.
Aegis ships also are receiving other technology upgrades. For example, commercial technology for high-definition digital video is being incorporated into Common Display System consoles under development.
DRS Technologies, of Parsippany, N.J., ranks No. 23 on Washington Technology's 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
