General Dynamics to augment Marine Corps command systems

A General Dynamics unit will provide technology components that will enhance the Marine Corps’ ability to coordinate air and ground combat operations under a $17 million contract modification.
Under the modification, General Dynamics C4 Systems will furnish nine Capability Set III systems, company officials said. The capability sets are an integral part of the Processing and Display Subsystems for the Marine Corps’ new Common Aviation Command and Control System (CAC2S), the officials said.
CAC2S is designed to improve coordination among aviation assault, close air support and ground troops.
The work is part of a contract to support Marine Corps Combat Operations Centers valued at $670 million. In June, C4 Systems installed a software-based system to speed information sharing among the Combat Operations Centers under a separate modification.
The combat operations centers support operations at the battalion, squadron, regiment, group and Marine Expeditionary Brigade levels stationed in Afghanistan, Iraq and other countries.
