Apptis wins Army communications upgrade contract

Apptis Inc. will provide management and other integration services to the Army under a two-year prime contract valued at more than $130 million.

The contract, awarded by the Project Manager Defense Communications and Army Transmissions Systems’ Command Center Upgrades Special Projects Office, calls for Apptis to provide overall management, engineering, integration and acquisition of turnkey command, control, communications, computers and intelligence systems worldwide.

The office manages more than 100 projects that support joint warfighters, major commands and combatant commanders worldwide, Apptis officials said.

Projects include strategic satellite communications and wideband control systems, long-haul terrestrial microwave and fiber-optic communications systems, tech control facilities, combat service support communications systems, critical power infrastructure, command center upgrades, base radios, and combat vehicle intercom systems.

Apptis will support those systems by providing program management, engineering services, enterprise infrastructure integration, telecommunications engineering and information technology systems engineering.

The company will also provide support for operations, maintenance, training and integrated logistics.

The systems provide a vital military connection for the transmission of data, voice and visual information worldwide, said Skip Nowland, president and general manager of Apptis’ Defense and National Security Sector, in a company statement.

Subcontracting partners include CSC; ManTech International Corp.; SGIS, a government contractor based in San Diego; and X-EETO, a Miami-based veteran/minority-owned small, disadvantaged business that specializes in C4ISR systems.

Apptis, of Chantilly, Va., ranks No. 50 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
