Harris fills Air Force order for communications systems

Harris Corp. will supply the Air Force with radios and a new digital intercom system for its ground vehicles through a $13.5 million order.

Under the order, Harris will provide the Air Force with its Falcon III AN/VRC-110 multiband, multimode vehicular radios, company officials said today. The contractor also will furnish its new RF-7800I Tactical Intercom System.

The Air Force plans to use the equipment in Humvees assigned to ground missions, the officials said.

The intercom system offers vehicle crews modular, interoperable voice and data connectivity within the vehicle, and serves added duty as a network backbone that centralizes communications.

The RF-7800I digital intercom system essentially establishes a vehicular command and control center by unifying the technologies that connect the crew to the broader battlefield network, said Dana Mehnert, group president at Harris RF Communications.

Harris, of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2009 Top 100 list of the largest systems integrators.
