Lockheed wins Army tactical trainer deal

Lockheed Martin Corp. will provide 10 close combat tactical trainers to the Army under a $30.5 million contract.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will furnish three reconfigurable vehicle simulators and seven reconfigurable vehicle tactical trainers, company officials said. The company also will supply related weapons training.

The reconfigurable vehicle simulators and trainers help soldiers learn skills to effectively operate a wide variety of wheeled vehicles during reconnaissance and convoy operations and their variants such as the Humvee and Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck, the officials said.

The systems use terrain databases to represent specific geographical areas where the soldiers will operate the vehicles.

Lockheed Martin, of Bethesda, Md., ranks No. 1 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
