L-3 unit wins B-2 training deal

L-3 Communications Corp. has won a $22.8 million Air Force contract to assist with aircrew training for the B-2 stealth aircraft.

Under the contract, L-3 Communications Link Simulation and Training will provide logistics support for existing B-2 training systems, the Defense Department said April 10. The contract covers courseware and classroom instruction for training systems at Whiteman Air Force Base, Mo.

The B-2, which uses low-observable stealth technology, is a heavy bomber capable of penetrating sophisticated anti-aircraft defenses. It has been used in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan.

The Aeronautical Systems Center at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base is the contracting activity.

L-3 Link, of Arlington, Texas, is a unit of L-3 Communications Corp. The parent company ranks No. 8 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
