Kratos to earthquake-proof hospital networks

California law requires hospitals to either build new facilities or retrofit existing ones to make sure they can keep operating during and after an earthquake.
Kratos Defense and Security Soltuions Inc. won a $5 million contract to upgrade the network infrastructure for hospitals in earthquake-prone areas of California.
The state estimates that 40 percent of its hospitals are at risk of collapse in a major earthquake, the company said. California legislation requires the at-risk hospitals to retrofit or replace their facilities.
Under its contract, San Diego-based Kratos is responsible for network modernization, infrastructure design, and installation in the retrofitted or new facilities.
“It is imperative that California’s hospitals remain standing and functional during and after an earthquake, and the network infrastructure certainly is a critical component,” said Phil Carrai, executive vice president of Kratos’ Information Technology Solutions division.
