EDS to upgrade California Corrections IT services

EDS Corp. will help the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation create a digital environment under a contract valued at $245 million.

Under the four-and-a-half-year agreement, EDS will automate manual business processes to improve productivity and accuracy and, ultimately, enhance staff, public and offender safety.

EDS will provide system integration and applications modernization services to help increase the availability of accurate and complete information. That will assist employees in monitoring the effectiveness of department programs. Additionally, EDS will create and manage the image capture, database, information storage and server environment where offender information will reside.

The new initiative will streamline dozens of databases, record keeping processes and systems with a single integrated solution. The resulting automated environment will include software, hardware and processes designed to transform paper-based adult and juvenile offender records into digital records, EDS officials said.

As a result, management will have access to more information through business intelligence reports, trending data and dashboard reports to make decisions based on real-time facts, the officials said.

EDS’ parent company Hewlett Packard Corp. will provide servers, scanners and printers as part of the agreement.

EDS, of Plano, Texas, ranks No. 10 on Washington Technology’s 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors. Parent Hewlett Packard, of Palo Alto, Calif., ranks No. 39 on the list.
