CGI helps EPA improve environmental data exchange

CGI Federal Inc. will support the Environmental Protection Agency’s data exchange system under a three-year, $67 million contract.

The award calls for CGI to provide support for EPA’s Central Data Exchange (CDX), the point of entry for the transmission to the agency of environmental data on the national Environmental Information Exchange Network.

CGI will support EPA’s CDX through built-in quality checks, standard file formats, and a common approach to exchanging data to help all parties make sound decisions to protect the environment, company officials said.

EPA’s CDX streamlines the electronic submission of environmental data over the Internet between EPA and its external stakeholders, including the states and regulated industries, they said.

The CDX also allows providers of environmental information to access their data through the use of Web services.

This critical program is a key part of the Obama administration’s environmental regulatory mission, said George Schindler, CGI Federal president.
