Obama names Genachowski FCC chairman
Julius Genachowski served as Obama's campaign technology adviser.
President Barack Obama has nominated Julius Genachowski, his campaign technology adviser, as chairman of the Federal Communications Commission.
The appointment has been expected since Genachowski turned down the new position of chief technology officer for the nation in favor of the policy-making clout of the FCC chairmanship.
Genachowski, co-founder and managing director at technology venture capital firm Rock Creek Ventures, was formerly chief counsel to former FCC chairman Reed Hundt during the Clinton administration and, earlier, special counsel to FCC General Counsel (later chairman) William Kennard.
