Cubic to supply Army with ground combat simulators

The Army plans to purchase a large number of ground combat trainer systems from Cubic Corp. under a $16.1 million contract.

Under the contract, Cubic will deliver up to 255 Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 systems, the Defense Department said Feb. 27. The  contractor, based in San Diego, also will furnish supporting weapons and spares.

The Trainer 2000 improves warfighters’ use of small arms in ground combat by focusing on individual marksmanship, collective fire by squads or fire teams, and the ability to distinguish friend from foe on the battlefield, the Army said. The trainer, which can provide training for 11 small arms using sophisticated computer graphics, comes with its own simulation shelter.

The contracting activity is the Army’s Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation. The company will perform the work at the PEO STRI headquarters in Orlando, Fla. The contract expires in September 2012.
