Battelle wins $22.3 million Army contract

Battelle Memorial Institute won a $22.3 million Army contract to perform logistics verification and validation for the Army’s Sustainment Command, according to company officials.

The contract is for quality assurance and materiel management services for the Field Logistics Readiness Centers at Fort Stewart, Ga., and Fort Benning, Ga., and for the Director of Logistics at Fort Stewart.

The five-year contract has one base year and four, one-year options.

Battelle and its subcontractors will perform logistics verification and validation in the form of initial, in-progress, and final inspections on thousands of pieces of Army equipment per year.

The systems it will monitor range from small, power-generation equipment to large, tracked vehicles. It also includes 35,000 to 40,000 pieces per year of soldier-support items, such as communications systems, night vision and weapons.

Materiel management services will include report preparation, analysis support, logistics forums and maintenance reviews. The goal of the project is to maintain nondeployed combat vehicles, tactical vehicles and various other items of equipment in a combat-ready condition.

This award is Battelle’s second funded task order under the Field and Installation Readiness Support Team program.

Battelle’s initial task-order award under the FIRST program was in December 2007 to provide contract logistics support for the Fox Nuclear Biological Chemical Reconnaissance System and various chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear detection, reconnaissance, protection and decontamination systems.

Battelle, based in Columbus, Ohio, ranks No. 21 on Washington Technology's 2008 Top 100 list of the largest federal government prime contractors.
