Air Force wants combat ID technologies

The Air Force is seeking innovative technologies that will improve the ability of its units to accurately identify detected objects or threats in the battlespace so leaders can formulate an appropriate military response.

Officials made the announcement in a request for information issued March 17 on behalf of the Combat Identification Investment Strategy Working Group. The group wants technologies that are of sufficient maturity to achieve a minimum of Technology Readiness Level 5 before funding starts. Funding for individual concepts is likely to range from $500,000 to $3 million.

The combat identification technologies should be capable of describing and identifying moving and stationary targets in vehicles and on foot, describing and identifying targets concealed by camouflage or urban structures, and assessing behavior and intent.

Interested companies should submit a two-page response describing their concepts by April 17.
